The centre has departed and is expected to move to Salford.
Rohan Smith has admitted he would be surprised to see former Leeds Rhinos player Nene Macdonald join Salford. The Rhinos confirmed the immediate departure of the centre on Wednesday, with Rugby League Live then revealing he was on the verge of completing a move to Salford.
Many anticipated, perhaps even Smith himself, that the Papua New Guinea international would remain in Australia after his departure. He admitted seeing Macdonald in Salford colours next year would be a shock. "Once he didn't come back initially, it didn't look positive in that short-term of being able to contribute at the back end of the year. I've kept myself out of it and left it to Gary, Nene and his management team. I'm glad we've got a resolution, we're moving on and it creates an opportunity to strengthen our squad. We're in the mix and we look forward to closing something out soon.
