PHOENIX — The Rockets on Sunday made official the expected moves with their rookies from last season, picking up their third-year options with Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Usman Garuba and Josh Christopher.
Green and Sengun are key figures in the Rockets’ rebuild with Garuba and Christopher trying to carve out consistent playing time. Green is the Rockets’ leading scorer, averaging 20.7 points per game going into Sunday’s game. Sengun, who joined Green in the starting lineup on Friday, is their leading rebounder, averaging 10.3 rebounds along with 15.3 points per game.
Garuba, after not playing at all in the first two games of the season, started the third game to match up with the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, playing a limited role in the three games since prior to Sunday’s game against the Suns. Christopher had played in the first five games but did not play on Friday in Portland. He has played an average of 7.5 minutes per game, making 6 of 15 shots, but missing all six of his 3-pointers.
