PHOENIX — With the game on the line and less than five minutes remaining, the Rockets were still hanging around against a championship-caliber team within six points. The Suns took a timeout to prepare for a finishing kick.
“Experience,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said of the Suns’ play at closing time. “They’ve been to the mountaintop, they’ve been to the Finals, they’ve been together for a long time. Yet, the difference was in the way the Suns executed with the game on the line, getting good looks on every possession with the way they run their offense, rather than rely on any athletic superiority.
“We’re still growing,” forward Jae’Sean Tate said. “It’s still very early in the season. But in terms of our play for the first three quarters it was a tight game. That’s a championship-style team so down the stretch, they just made those plays. We have to get better at it and grow.”
