Reports in the Belgian press linked the student with the heir to Belgium's throne
The family of a young man from Rochdale have shut down rumours that he is romantically involved with the Princess of Belgium. Reports in the Belgian press suggested Whitworth student Nicholas Dodd had developed a relationship that ‘transcends friendship’ with Crown Princess Elisabeth, the heir to the throne of Belgium.
A Belgian newspaper says that Nicholas and Princess Elisabeth, had an ‘instant connection’ when they met at the Oxford University where they both study. The reports state that the pair have been spending a lot of time together after finding themselves in the same study group and are getting along ‘remarkably’.
In the article, Nicholas is described as a ‘citizen boy’ who is ‘probably of wealthy descent’ and an ‘excellent choice’ as a potential husband for Princess Elisabeth. But, when the Manchester Evening News travelled to the family home of Nicholas in Whitworth, to see if there was any truth to the rumours we were told things may not be as they seem. A relative of the history student has now poured cold water on the rumours of a relationship between the two describing them as ‘false’.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News outside the family’s home, the relative who preferred to remain anonymous said: “No, that is false. They just go to the same college and study together.A high achiever, Nicholas is featured on the Rochdale Sixth Form College website where he is praised for being accepted into Oxford University to study history in 2021.
21-year-old Princess Elisabeth is the next in line for the Belgian throne. The eldest child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. In 2021 she enrolled at the Lincoln College, an affiliated college of Oxford University, to study history and politics.
