Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has selected former Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich as his campaign manager.
In a statement Thursday, Kennedy described Kucinich, a two-time Democratic presidential candidate himself, as someone who “knows how the system works from the inside out.” “Dennis Kucinich has brought invaluable electoral experience to our campaign,” Kennedy said. “[His] deep knowledge of issues and his personal integrity are fully aligned with the core values our campaign is bringing to American politics.
Kucinich’s second campaign for president was shorter. After running on platforms that called for single-payer health care, combating global warming and withdrawing US troops from Iraq, he dropped out of the primary by January. Kucinich got his start in politics in Cleveland as a member of the city council in 1969. He rose up the ranks to become the city’s mayor in 1977 – at 31, he was at the time the youngest person ever elected mayor of a major US city.
