The ECHO was contacted by one concerned tenant who said the data breach showed a lack of duty of care
Riverside has apologised after a data breach resulted in the details of hundreds of tenants being visible to all recipients in a group email.
Riverside said it contacted all tenants by letter to offer "sincere apologies and assurances" the day after the data breach. But one tenant, who the ECHO isn't naming, said the "unacceptable" data breach showed a lack of duty of care. After being contacted by the ECHO yesterday, Tuesday, August 29, Riverside said: "We want to apologise once again to our affected customers for any distress caused.
The spokesperson added: "We wrote to those impacted to offer our sincere apologies and assurances on Wednesday, July 12. Within the letter sent, we advised customers of the low risk of being identified from an email address where it is not accompanied by or combined with other personal data. "The ICO notes that, in line with our information rights practices, we have written to our customers acknowledging and apologising for the error, and recognise that we have taken steps to investigate this matter and how we have put measures in place to ensure it does not happen again.
