The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) has issued a warning for tornadoes and gusts of up to 60mph in Nottinghamshire. The warning also covers areas in Dorset and Hampshire, with risks of hail and lightning. The Met Office has also forecasted strong thunder and rain for Saturday evening.
A storm research organisation says there could be a risk of tornadoes in Nottinghamshire this evening, with gusts of up to 60mph also being forecast. The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation , a voluntary group run by experts since 1974, has issued a warning lasting from midday on Saturday until 3am on Sunday.
The group's warning covers areas including Nottinghamshire and further south into Dorset and Hampshire, with risks including hail and lightning. The warning reads: "Tornadoes cannot be ruled out with some of the stronger cells... This corridor looks to be from around about Dorset/Hampshire NE towards the Wash. However, some discrete cells may occur east of this too."The Met Office has also said that strong thunder is possible on Saturday evening.
For Saturday evenings, the agency's forecast for Nottingham reads: "Breezy start with outbreaks of rain spreading north, occasionally heavy, and perhaps thundery. Rain clearing north by dawn, with clearer skies following. Perhaps the odd mist patch developing."
