It comes after the Tory PM refused to commit to lobbying for Jagtar's release.
Rishi Sunak has raised the case of detained Scots man Jagtar Singh Johal with the Indian Prime Minister at the G20 summit in New Delhi. The UK Prime Minister confirmed he brought up Jagtar's case with Narendra Modi during a meeting, alongside a range of other consular issues.
While an investigation by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found there was no legal basis for his imprisonment, the 36-year-old has remained in prison for six years and faces the death penalty. He said: "Yes, I was able to, alongside a range of other consular issues that Prime Minister Modi and I discussed in the time that we had. And also the Foreign Office are continuing to provide support to Mr Johal's family and will continue to do so."
But while travelling on the plane to New Delhi, Sunak told reporters the case had been raised multiple times.
