The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
Two police officers had to work quickly Tuesday to extinguish a fire that was burning inside the living room of a Saddle River home.
Saddle River Police Sgt. Diana Golonek and Officer Grant Novak were the first to arrive at the Dogwood Road home and saw heavy smoke pouring out of the front door, according to a statement from the department. Once they were sure everyone had gotten out, they went in, saw a fire in the corner of the living room, grabbed two fire extinguishers from inside the home and emptied them in an attempt to douse the flames, police said.
Novak then went to the back of the home and pulled a garden hose through an open French door from the patio to the living room to put the fire out for good, the department said. Saddle River Police Chief Jason Cosgriff said he commended the officers on their “alert and swift actions that resulted in minimizing the damage to the home and property.”
