Hyndburn Council issued the warning today after being made aware of burning and smoke in the Great Harwood area. Anyone who is able to smell or see smoke near their homes is being asked to keep their windows and doors shut.
When LancsLive contacted the Environment Agency for further information, they confirmed that they had received reports of the smells and are currently investigating the problem. A spokesperson said: "We have received reports of burning in Great Harwood. "If smoke/a fire is causing a pollution concern, but there is not a threat to life or property, you can report this directly to us at Hyndburn Borough Council. All reports made will be treated in the strictest confidence and your contact details will remain confidential.
