BBC Scotland’s programme Debate Night was in Motherwell for the first time
Residents in North Lanarkshire took the opportunity to put their questions to guests including politicians and Motherwell FC’s chairman as part of the audience on a television show last week.

She said: “Back in 2007 they promised to get rid of the Council Tax altogether, but guess what, that hasn’t happened. Councils are having to make some horrible decisions. We’ve came through a pandemic and are in a cost-of-living crisis, what we actually need is investment in public services.”
Jim McMahon, who grew up in Carluke and has written a book which he dedicated to the local library, said: “Going to the library was one of the most important things I did, apart from kicking a football around. I was better at the library than I was at football, as many Motherwell supporters here will tell you.”
