The Sunday afternoon event featured an interfaith worship and educational forum, a witness walk, and a remembrance service and call to action.
Concerned residents marched throughout Harrisburg on Sunday afternoon to honor those lost to gun violence and to demand stronger gun laws and regulation., a faith-based movement to prevent illegal gun violence, Harrisburg residents gathered at Capital Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. to sing, pray, and hear community leaders talk about gun violence. Speakers ranged from Eric Jackson, local chair of Heeding God’s Call chapter in Harrisburg, and Bryan Miller, national director of Heeding God’s Call.
Miller said little has been achieved to prevent gun violence on the federal level, and he believes the cause is because of the “American faith community.” Miller said one of the organization’s goals is to push the legislature into passing the one-handgun-a-month law, which limits individuals to no more than a single handgun within a 30-day period.
Banks was shot in the head in 1994, causing him to go blind when he was 16 years old. Through his experience with gun violence, Banks has made it his responsibility to inspire and spread change throughout the Harrisburg community.
