Also running unopposed were Democratic state Reps. Jolanda Jones, a Democrat who won a special election in May after the early retirement of veteran legislator Garnet Coleman; Harold Dutton, the surprise pick of Republican Speaker Dade Phelan last year to chair the House public education committee; and Senfronia Thompson, one of the Legislature’s longest-tenured members.
As of early voting, attorney Mano DeAyala was leading Democratic education consultant Mohamad Maarouf and Libertarian gym owner James Patrick Harren.
