The obscure court rule regarding 'related cases' got attention after a set of rulings from Judge Roger Benitez irked gun-safety advocates
Long before the U.S. Supreme Court upended Second Amendment law in June 2022, there was San Diego federal court Judge Roger Benitez.
That quirk is now gone. Last week, the court issued an amendment to that rule that seems to address complaints from gun-control groups about how it worked. After ruling on the large-capacity magazine case initially, the three other lawsuits were sent to Benitez under the local court rule.
