These revelations raise the questions of whether San Francisco police have utilized DNA from victims of crimes and other individuals who voluntarily provided DNA to SFPD to aid in investigations — and just how many people currently have their DNA stored by SFPD. Scott did not confirm to the outlet how many people may have been “queried” by the crime lab for possible matches in DNA over the past seven years.

Boudin, in a statement to USA Today and on Twitter, excoriated the police, saying his office’s “worst fears are confirmed.”
