Campbell McDonald, 74, spent four weeks in hospital being nursed back to health after developing a life-threatening infection back in January.
A real-life Mr Geppetto carved special tributes for fifty members of hospital staff who saved his life.
Campbell said: "I just wanted to say thank you to all of them. I contracted sepsis and after being blue-lighted to the QEUH they found I had a kidney issue so I was put on dialysis. He was taken to Ward 4A on the kidney unit and spent four weeks receiving dialysis. In that time he got to know the staff well, and he came to develop a huge appreciation and gratitude for the work they did.
“I didn’t want anything in return. I was pretty unwell – in fact, at the time I didn’t realise how bad it was. I’m still living with the aftermath, but I’m always grateful for all that they did for me.
