When the Rangers and Astros squared off Friday, it marked a duel of a pair of 2,000-win managers. It’s a pretty exclusive club. There are only 12 of them in...
Beyond that, though, they are exceptionally familiar with one another. Friday’s game marked the 192nd time they have managed against one another. The only managers against whom Bochy has managed more often: Colorado’s Bud Black and retired Clint Hurdle . Baker, who entered the day 110-81 against Bochy has more wins against him than any other manager.
“It’s like the old days,” Bochy said. “We’ve had some good battles. That’s for sure. “Despite being rivals for years, I have so much respect for the man and what he’s done. He was a tremendous player, coach and now manager. He’s accomplished so much and he’s so good for the game. I’ve always enjoyed my time managing against him. We’re trying to get this team to where they are. That’s our goal.”
