The Dutch giants have spent big and splashed out fees not seen at Ibrox for more than 20 years.
Michael Beale said he is “led to believe Rangers are slight underdogs” against PSV Eindhoven but in terms of the respective cost of the squads the Dutch side should be big favourites.
PSV's squad have shown their spending power this summer, smashing their club record transfer spend when they recruited Noa Lang, a doubt for Tuesday’s first leg at Ibrox, for £12 million from Club Brugge. Rangers haven’t been able to spend that kind of cash since the days of Tore Andre Flo back in 2000 and likely won’t again for a long time.
Rangers also lost out to PSV in the race for Joey Veerman last summer with the midfielder going for £5 million from Dutch rivals Heerenveen. And of course Malik Tillman didn’t return to Rangers after a loan spell at Ibrox last season but has turned up at the Philips Stadium from Bayern Munich on loan.
