Race to restore power to thousands of homes ahead of expected Storm Barra
The worst of the storm is expected to be in the west of Ireland but yellow warnings for wind are in place across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland on Tuesday, while yellow snow warnings cover southern and western Scotland.There are currently no weather warnings in place for Monday.
Nearly 300 military personnel from the British Army and Royal Marines were deployed to offer support and have been conducting door-to-door checks on vulnerable people in their homes. "For people in County Durham who I spoke to, they felt isolated, they felt angry, and they felt forgotten." It has also agreed with firms to lift the £700 cap on compensation which could be given to customers.
