Queen's 'comment about Lilibet's name' as Meghan and Harry’s decision ‘bewildered’ royals
On June 4, 2021, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their second child into the world, a daughter named Lilibet, in honour of the Queen's nickname.
In Gyles Brandreth's upcoming biography Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, serialised in the Mail Online, he writes: “According to the Sussexes, Harry sought his grandmother’s permission to use her family nickname as the Christian name for her 11th great-grandchild. “Others in the family found the choice ‘bewildering’ and ‘rather presumptuous’, given that ‘Lilibet’ as a name had always been intimately and exclusively the Queen’s.
"Lili has just started walking. She's a year and a couple of months old, and Archie is just over three years old."
