Quail thrown from car window saved by animal lovers

A young quail was rescued after being thrown out of a car window near Salzburg. The finder brought the bird to the Austrian Animal Rescue, where it is recovering from the trauma before being placed in a new home.

A witness reported that unknown individuals threw a live quail out of a moving car like a piece of garbage. A woman secured the young bird and brought it to the Austria n Animal Rescue in the city of Salzburg.

'The finder brought us the quail and told us it was thrown out of a car window,' said Leonie Michelle Ehrschwendtner to 'Krone'. She is the operations manager of the Austrian Animal Rescue and can hardly believe the incident. Apparently, the finder initially thought it was a sock or a piece of cloth until she noticed it moving. So the young bird was quickly packed into a box with air holes and driven to the city of Salzburg.

For wild animals, it generally applies that they should be touched as little as possible. A cardboard box is usually well-suited for transport, and a piece of newspaper or an old washcloth makes it more comfortable for the animal. Warmth is particularly important for young animals.

However, finders should refrain from feeding them - that is a task for professionals.

'At first, the little quail was a bit confused,' said Ehrschwendtner. 'But then it could even fly. It seems to have escaped the scare.

' Meanwhile, the animal is being cared for in a recovery station and likely needs a new home soon, since quails are group animals
