MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday he hoped the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would be completed by the end of the year or in the first quarter of 2021. Putin’s comments came after Swiss-Dutch company Allseas Group last month suspended laying pipes for the pipeline project after Washington imposed sanctions against Nord Stream 2.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will run along the Baltic Sea floor, is designed to help Russia bypass Ukraine, the main route for Russian gas headed to Europe. Gazprom, Russia’s state-controlled gas giant and a major backer of Nord Stream 2, had initially planned for the pipeline to be completed by the end of 2019.Our Standards:
