By putting a light-colored 'cool roof' on your home, you'll save money and help the environment. CPS Energy will pay you to do it.
Style and looks have nothing to do with it. It's all about the roof's color and/or the material it's made of. A cool roof reflects more of the sun's radiant energy than a traditional roof does.CPS will give you a rebate — meaning they'll cut you a check — if you install a new cool roof that meets certain energy-saving standards.If you're a CPS customer and your home has a working central air system or window units, you're eligible.
Also, your roof has to have a lot of sun exposure, and it can't already have a radiant barrier in the attic to keep heat absorption down. CPS wants to upgrade roofs that really need it, not those that are already heavily shaded or otherwise protected against heat buildup.To be eligible for a rebate, 75 percent of your roof has to receive direct sunlight. And 75 percent or more of it has to be replaced with a cool roof.
