Sackler family members who own the bankrupt OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma increased their settlement offer to ease the company’s exit from chapter 11
Members of the Sackler family who own OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP have agreed to contribute up to $6 billion to end civil lawsuits accusing them of helping fuel the opioid crisis and resolve a legal fight with state attorneys general who had been against previous settlement offers.
The new settlement, disclosed in court papers Thursday, marks an increase from the $4.5 billion offered earlier and has the backing of the handful of state attorneys general who won a court ruling overturning the Sacklers’ previous proposed deal.
