Restricted reserves, on the other hand, are largely earmarked for specific projects.
Most divisions have seen their reserves shrink. Others have experienced growth, although only marginally in some cases. Regina Public Schools has an unrestricted reserve of $13.9 million. Regina Catholic wasn’t included in the analysis because it uses different terms in its audited accounting.Duncan said he has heard examples of school divisions planning to use unrestricted reserves, but haven’t been clear with parents on where the dollars are going.
Shawn Davidson, the president of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, said school boards are co-operating with the ministry.
