One of Canada's land-locked provinces is celebrating a century of contributions to the nation's Navy.
“I couldn’t be more proud that they are receiving much-deserved recognition in the Saskatchewan legislature, formally marking their centenarian years.”
The Naval Reserve employs more than 4,000 sailors across the country. Reservists train and work for the Navy on a part-time basis while holding a civilian job. Currently, reservists are available to support provincial and local authorities in domestic operations such as natural disasters. Reservists have responded in recent years to events like flooding in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec; the British Columbia forest fires; hurricanes in the Maritimes; and care for seniors during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
