Enterprise State cross country coach Chris Christian calls Providence Christian’s Wyatt Mixson a ‘game changer’ for his program – a runner who could help push his Boll Weevil boys team
David Mundee to a higher level.
This past fall, Mixson, the lone senior on Providence’s team led by head coach Cliff Carter, helped the Eagles to a third straight state title. He finished ninth at the AHSAA Class 4A state meet, earning all-state honors in recording a time of 16 minutes and 57.93 seconds. “I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to run for my cross-country team because I do love running. I also want to thank my family for being by my side and encouraging me, helping me through times that have been hard on me as a runner through my training.”
“He has meant a lot to our program – the banners he helped hang, the all-state recognition he received this past year and the all-star recognition he received last summer,” Providence Christian head coach Cliff Carter said. “Those are a smart part of what Wyatt has meant to the program. His personality, intensity and his family involvement have been big along with Wyatt’s competitiveness.”
Mixson started his junior year with a 19:39.57 time, but gradually improved to mostly 18 and 17-minute times. He consistently ran 17 minutes and below this season during meets.
