Globally, non-communicable diseases are the leading causes of mortality, accounting for 41 million deaths annually, with 77% of these mostly premature and avoidable deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries . LMICs also bear a disproportionate burden of premature deaths .
. Given that effective low-cost interventions are available, this is highly disconcerting from both a health and a societal perspective.
