Investigations must be carried out before the Grand Hall and Charter Theatre can be used again
The organisers of the Preston Weekender have issued a statement after the event was thrown into doubt when reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete was identified at Preston Guild Hall.
The discovery means that investigations must be carried out before the venue's Grand Hall and Charter Theatre can be used again. The Weekender is due to take place in November and was set to be the first major event to be hosted at the landmark venue following drawn out legal proceedings which kept it closed.
But those plans have been thrown in to disarray and it is now not known whether those plans will be able to continue or not. Preston City Council confirmed the discovery of RAAC earlier today, adding that the remainder of Guild Hall - including the ground floor trading units and Harris Library - remain open for business.
"We appreciate people's patience and will update ticket holders as soon as possible. Obviously, this is news nobody wanted but the safety and security of patrons is paramount."
