President Joe Biden has declared that a major disaster exists for the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians and ordered federal aid to supplement tribal efforts to repair areas affected by Tropical Storm Hilary last month.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the tribe — something Webb said the tribe would be applying for as well to mitigate future damage from flooding. “Storm Hilary’s damage followed the severe storm damage received during the December, January and February rains,” Webb said. “We were in the middle of working with the county and OES on repairs when along came Hilary.”
