Team of weather experts plan to survey damage to look for evidence that a tornado touched down during Tuesday's strong thunderstorms.

in Pennington and West Windsor, with some trees causing structural damage to houses and some landing on cars, according to reports from residents and police. The weather service plans to send a survey team out on Wednesday to inspect the damage near West Windsor and Lawrenceville, and they will determine if there’s evidence that a twister was responsible or if the damage was caused by straight-line thunderstorm winds.If confirmed, it would be the state’s first tornado to occur during the month of February since 1999, when a small tornado struck Cherry Hill in Camden County.
Prior to that, the only February tornadoes on record in the Garden State touched down on Feb. 2, 1973 in Hunterdon County. Three small twisters were confirmed on the same day — one in Tewksbury, one just east of Lebanon and one about two miles northwest of Califon, according to weather service storm data.
