.KayBurley: 'The police did issue fines for people that were at the event on 13 November and the PM was there.' Environment Sec George Eustice reiterates that the police looked at the event and chose not to issue the PM with a fine. Latest: 📺 Sky 501
Environment Secretary George Eustice says there was a"blurring of boundaries" in Downing Street between what was an"end of the working day" event - and"what became in some cases parties".
Mr Eustice added that Boris Johnson has"tried to make changes" after he was handed a fine for attending a birthday gathering on 19 June 2020.The environment secretary said:"There was a blurring of the boundary if you like between events that were happening just at the end of a working day in a working environment – a blurring of that to what became in some cases parties."
In January, Sue Gray offered the bones of her findings - today we'll see her flesh them out. She said the various gatherings represented a"serious failure" of standards and leadership in Number 10. In a statement, the government said it had"reached a position where we could issue a licence that permits the sale" of the club. The sale will bring down the curtain on Roman Abramovich's 19-year tenure as the owner of Chelsea.
It is likely to include damaging further details about what went on, potentially including the names of some of those who attended gatherings. The chancellor is meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson tomorrow to sign off the package, which could include a new windfall tax, help with fuel bills and assistance for the most vulnerable.
Two weeks ago, Sky News was told that there would not be enough information on the likely cost of energy in the Autumn to make a judgement before July.
