Police say there could be a dangerous ulterior motive behind them
Homeowners are being warned about mysterious Christmas gnomes that are being left in gardens. North Wales Police have issued a warning to anyone who finds one of the bearded ornaments in their garden as there is a dangerous ulterior motive behind them.
The police force said that burglars are leaving the Christmas gnomes in gardens across the region as a way to check if anyone is home. If the homeowner doesn't remove it - then the burglars presume the home is empty and it therefore becomes a target.Taking to Twitter, the Flintshire North branch posted a photo of one of the Christmas gnomes. The grey and bearded gnome was found by a resident in Broughton, Flintshire, who came across it in their garden.
"This type of behaviour is sometimes used as a 'calling card' to see if the gnome is collected by the resident.
