The pursuit began in Livingston and continued into East Orange and Newark, authorities said.
Two people were taken into custody following an early-morning pursuit across Essex County and a crash involving a police vehicle in East Orange, officials said.
State Police also tried to get the driver of the fleeing vehicle to stop, an East Orange spokeswoman said.
