The Pickleball Canadian National Championships wrap up this weekend in Regina as top players Deakin, Dyachenko enjoy the competition.
Deakin won his first doubles event with Ryan Hanes of Kingston, Ont., for players aged 40-49 with a 4.0 skill level.
Dyachenko is playing a singles event for women over 16 rated 4.5 and above. In one of her four doubles events, Dyachenko and her partner, Beatrice Hodgkins of Regina, placed third in women’s 16-49 doubles for 4.0 and above. Originally from Kazakhstan, Dyachenko attended university in London, England, and played semi-professional basketball before moving to Regina. Getting married and having a young son dissuaded her from touring professionally but she has played in pro pickleball events and was the singles champ at the Western Canadian championships.Article content
