Physician assistant compensation has topped $110,000 annually

comes amid a trend of greater access to PAs and the shift value-based reimbursement models that emphasize outpatient care and population health.

The majority of certified PAs or about 80% of them practice in either a hospital or “office-based setting,” the report shows. And, for the first time in the six years NCCPA has been writing the report, it shows hospital setting has “greatest number of certified PAs” with 40.5% or 39,935 compared to 39.5% or 38,968 for office-based PAs.

A physician assistant is nationally certified by the commission and must be licensed in the states where they practice. Most have a three-year master’s degree, often from a program that runs about two years and includes three years of healthcare training,They work in doctor’s offices, hospitals, surgery centers and other locations and their work includes diagnosing illnesses, writing prescriptions and counseling patients on preventive care.
