Published: Nov. 01, 2023, 5:28 p.m.The hunt is on for a vehicle that was involved in a deadly hit-and-run early Wednesday morning in Philadelphia, according to news reports.

The incident took place in the Kensington neighborhood of the city, where the 33-year-old victim was crossing the street at East Lehigh Avenue and Emerald Street around 3 a.m. The driver of a speeding dark-colored SUV blew through a red light and that’s when the pedestrian was struck.“It does appear that speed was a factor,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said toSurveillance video that captured the incident shows the man being struck and dragged roughly 400 feet.

“More than likely, the person who stuck this 33-year-old pedestrian knew they hit something,” Small said toAs a result, the victim ended up further down the block near Jasper Street and died at the scene from sustained injuries.According to Small, the vehicle that struck the man “never slowed down” and continued westbound on Lehigh Avenue. Police said they found several parts of the vehicle at the scene, the news outlets reported.reported.

“It appears this is a dark or black SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade, and it’s going to have front-end damage and damage to the grill because we found broken car parts on Lehigh Avenue,” Small said toAs a result of the deadly hit and run, the driver could possibly face a vehicular homicide charge. “It’s a very serious charge. It’s a felony – looking at serious jail time.
