The Belgian boss has been interviewed by the Ibrox board and remains right in the hunt to replace Michael Beale.

Philippe Clement is keen on a move to Rangers amid “ongoing talks” with the Ibrox board – despite having held talks over a potential money-spinning move to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

The 49-year-old has an impressive CV and reports in Belgium say the former Genk, Club Brugge and Monaco gaffer is “keen on the move”. The report, in Mercato, says: “Talks currently ongoing between Philippe Clement and Rangers. Belgian coach has been targeted as one of the main favourites by the Scottish board. Philippe Clement keen on the move despite having hold talks with Al Shabab.”

Clement has been out of work since leaving Monaco earlier this year. He joined mid-season and lead them to third place in Ligue 1 and Champions League qualification. He finished sixth in his second season, his only full campaign. They missed out on reaching the Champions League after losing to PSV Eindhoven in the qualifiers and finished second in their Europa League group before losing to Bayer Leverkusen on penalties in the last-32.

Record Sport exclusively revealed how Rangers legend Graeme Souness is helping Rangers chairman John Bennett and chief executive James Bisgrove as they step up their efforts to appoint Michael Beale’s successor with interviews taking place in London this week. Clement is a three-time Belgian title winner with Genk and Club Brugge. Former Rangers full back Kevin Muscat, currently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos, remains in the frame.
