What's 'philathro-activism'? Justin Winter, Executive Director &Cofounder of One Earth, explained it and how it's unique model is helping more people who are on the ground doing the real work to address climate change. Here's how.
Winter described the pillars this way: “There's three main solutions for us to solve the climate crisis and they have to be acted on quickly. That's: a just transition to a hundred percent renewable energy. The second one is protecting, connecting and restoring 50% of the world’s lands and oceans. And then the third piece is shifting our food and fiber systems to be regenerative, in short regenerative agriculture.
Through their Marketplace, One Earth matches these locally-based projects with funders in their network. “I hope … becomes kind of a vessel for collective action,” Winter said. “There's an opportunity here for climate change to not feel like this big elusive very far off problem,” to “feel like you can do something about it.”
Many of the projects in One Earth’s Marketplace may not seem like climate solutions at first, but they can have a much broader impact.in the Amazon rainforest. They came to One Earth seeking funding for a rainwater catchment system to bring clean water to their community, because their water supply had been contaminated by toxic oil spills.
