Five lots of Accupril are recalled.

has recalled five lots of the blood pressure medication Accupril because of the presence of a cancer-causing impurity., the Accupril is recalled because of the presence of nitrosamine that is above the acceptable daily intake level.

“Nitrosamines are common in water and foods, including cured and grilled meats, dairy products and vegetables. Everyone is exposed to some level of nitrosamines. These impurities may increase the risk of cancer if people are exposed to them above acceptable levels over long periods of time.” Accupril is used to treat hypertension - high blood pressure. It also can be used to manage heart failure.“Pfizer believes the benefit/risk profile of the products remains positive based on currently available data. Although long-term ingestion of Nnitroso-quinapril may be associated with a potential increased cancer risk in humans, there is no immediate risk to patients taking this medication.

All of the medications come in a 90-count bottle. They were distributed nationwide from December 2019 to April 2022. Patients with the affected product should contact Sedgwick at 888-345-0481, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, for instructions on how to return their product and obtain reimbursement for their cost.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
