The developer and housebuilder has been refused planning consent but is now appealing the decision
A well-known housebuilder has been told to take down 'disgraceful' fencing built along the A6 without planning permission. Developer Persimmon erected the fence as part of a recent scheme to build over 1,000 homes on land which overlooks the busy A road.
Cllr Dan Corbin, group leader for the Conservative Group, told the meeting: "What is actually up is quite frankly a disgrace – a heavily graffitied fence. It has been destroyed by tag artists and it has been turned into a complete eyesore. He said Persimmon had built in excess of 780 homes on the site but had so far not provided a primary school, community centre, or sports and leisure facilities. Cllr Corbin said: "They have sold these houses to these residents in some cases under false pretences and told complete lies.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service visited the site and spoke to residents living closest to the bund. Their overall feeling is that what has been built is acceptable for the safety of children and reduction of noise and light from the A6, but it could do with being extended to avoid people getting around to graffiti it and to plant trees and plants to obscure it.
