Perfect Lancashire winter walk that ends with a well earned pint at a cosy pub
The weather seems to be getting colder by the minute but that doesn't mean you need to avoid getting out and about in Lancashire.
If you're happy to get out the hat and gloves, there's so much to explore and enjoy across the county. Often when suggested a walking route, we look at historic places which have been loved by Lancastrians for generations. This week has a little difference because while we've got another wonderful park and woodland to explore, it's not one which has been around for a long time. Over in Burnley, Brun Valley Forest Park covers 13 separate areas of land spanning 130-hectares and was formed on grounds which were once used as railway lines, Bank Hall and Rowley Collieries, a quarry, industrial brick works and landfill sites.
A riverside stretch and lake over peaceful areas for quieter reflection and the joy of the park is you can head a different way each time and find something new to appreciate. We've provided a suggested route for you to take in a few of those attractions but in all honesty, our best suggestion is to simply park up and explore as you see fit.
Our suggestion is to start and end at the Thornton Arms pub on Brownside Road, which is dog friendly and describes itself as "Burnley's favourite family pub". It serves up low priced and enjoyable food alongside a good selection of drinks, making it an ideal stopping point after a long walk.
