Former Auburn defensive coordinator and Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads is leaving the Gulf Shores High School staff after just one season.
Gulf Shores defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads, left, and head coach Mark Hudspeth watch the Dolphins warm up to play St. Michael in a prep football game Thursday, August 18, 2022, in Fairhope, Ala.
In his only year at Gulf Shores, he helped lead the Dolphins to the Class 5A quarterfinals and an 11-2 record. His defense gave up 240 points for the season – an average of 18 points a game. “The way coach Hud runs his program should be a model for other places,” he said. “Gulf Shores is definitely a unique situation with the investment the administration has made to make sure the students here have the best opportunities to succeed in every way. It’s been very rewarding. I could not have asked for a better year.”
