We chat with ILoveMyDad stars pattonoswalt & ClaudiaSulewski about their intersecting relationships with Franklin in the film and why they had to see it get made:

Family comedies are getting a bizarre twist with I Love My Dad. Patton Oswalt stars in the film as a single father desperate to reconnect with his son by catfishing him as a beautiful young waitress, only for his secret to be put at risk when his son wants to take a road trip with his dad to meet the woman.

Claudia Sulewski: For starters, it was the fastest read of my life, because I think you're just watching this snowball just build larger and larger. I think once I reached the point in the script where the sexting started, that's when I was in. I was like,"I need to see how this is gonna get done." [Laughs]"I need to see how this is going to be shot and edited and executed.

Patton Oswalt: Well, with me, my rapport is I'm desperate to reconnect with him. And when we're together, he has a wall of silence up against me, and that is slowly breaking down. I don't want to speak for Claudia, but it was fascinating to watch Claudia have to play not Chuck, but Franklin's fantasy of how he wants Claudia to be. It was an amazing balancing act that I should probably let her answer, but yeah, it was amazing.

Patton Oswalt: That's amazing you brought that up, because when we shot that scene, first I watched Claudia, who can dance, who actually is really good and smooth, and then I had to come in and do Chuck's best version of someone who knows how to dance, which was easy to me because I can't dance.
