Four different angle showed the shooting death of Patrick Lyoya when an officer shot him during a fight following a traffic stop.shows a Grand Rapids police officer shooting and killing Patrick Lyoya earlier this month.
The officer also asked Loyoya if he had a license. Loyoya appeared confused as to why he was getting pulled over, so the officer asked if he spoke English. Loyoya said yes. He also told the officer his license was in his car. After the second taser attempt, the officer's body worn camera deactivated. Police Chief Eric Winstrom said the cameras deactivate when a button on them is held down for 3 seconds and noted that it appeared that the camera was bumped and shut off during the fight.As the two scuffled, the officer repeatedly told Loyoya to let go of the taser. Winstrom said it appeared that the officer and Loyoya both had a hand on the taser for about 90 seconds.
Michigan State Police investigators are now handling the case. The officer is on paid leave right now.
