An actor addresses a group of visitors Saturday during the Voices of the Past event at Crown Hill Cemetery. With a twang in his voice, a handlebar moustache, cowboy hat, coveralls and a red handkerchief around his neck, Smokey Culver looked and sounded the part at an event commemorating people who helped establish Pasadena.
Culver told visitors how Guinn, born in 1845 in Timber Ridge, Tenn., found his way to Pasadena where he and his 14 children from three marriages worked the strawberry farms while filling other positions such as postmaster. Guin's third wife died in 1918. Culver suggested that Guinn, who died at age 82, was responsible for the cemetery’s name because of a friend who was buried in an Indiana cemetery named Crown Hill.
