“It’s been picked up by a number of local media outlets, but if you don’t watch the whole story or read more about it, you think we’re arming teachers. Part of the process found the superintendent earlier this week talking to Parma Police Chief Joseph M. Bobak and Parma Director of Safety Bob Coury about setting up procedures and protocols.“I know the state passed this, so I kind of figured it was coming,” the police chief said. “We want to support them; we want to be helpful. I just need more information.”
That information and further clarity of district intentions is expected at the Aug. 10 Board of Education meeting.Parma City Schools also hires police officers as school resource officers from the City of Parma to be stationed at Parma High School and Normandy High School, as well as Parma Heights officers at Valley Forge High School.As for the notion of allowing armed staff members, that was a recent recommendation by an outside security consultant.
