Dr. Robert McClelland was among those who worked to save the president’s life on Nov. 22, 1963. His shirt is a new addition to the museum, along with letters...

Nicola Longford, the museum’s CEO, says taken collectively, they are “extraordinary pieces of history” that “show the breadth and depth” of the museum’s inventory. All will be on display by the anniversary, she said.

In another letter, Lee Harvey Oswald writes to his brother Robert, who lived in Texas. The ex-Marine had defected to the Soviet Union in 1959 and wanted out. One of the new pieces is a set of charcoal drawings taken from images of Zapruder’s landmark film. Commissioned by assassination researcher Josiah Thompson, the museum says, they served in place of the actual video frames, which he was barred from publishing in his 1967 book,The museum now possesses two other films made by Dallas citizens, each of whom recorded footage in the crazed, chaotic moments after the shooting. The cameras they used are also among the newly acquired items.

Dallas native Jack Daniel, who died in 2015, filmed his 8mm color home movie in the immediate aftermath of the gunshots. The museum says the “frantic 10-second sequence” is “the only known home movie taken that day from the west side of the Triple Underpass.” It shows the presidential limousine speeding toward the Stemmons Freeway on-ramp as Daniel’s children, unaware of what just took place in Dealey Plaza, wave to the car.
