The director said the work hadn’t actually been written and told Reyes to give it a whirl if he wanted. “He said, ‘I’ll give you the Stacy Adams shoes and all the bling, but you have to let me design it,’” Reyes said. “I’ve got triple-granddaddy chains that hang from pocket to knee level and a gold pocket watch.”
Reyes’ efforts are year-round, which is where excess toy-drive funds find purpose: He revives Pancho Claus at an annual Christmas-in-July event, works with at-risk youth and emerging artists, conducts open-mic events and has in mind a multicultural festival.
