The incident occurred about 11 a.m. on July 13 when the worker was approached by a well-dressed man in the parking lot of the Loews Home Improvement store in the shopping center, according to police.“He explained to the 76 year old that he was in the area for a church function and he needed someone to help him with the bag,” Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti said in a statement.
The men left with the victim’s $10,000, Guidetti said. “The cash inside the bank bag was wrapped to appear to be American currency. However, it was just paper, Guidetti said.
